Niao He University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Home About Me Research FORML Group Publications Teaching Gallery Contact UIUC ISE CSL Niao He I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) . I am also affiliated with the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Coordinated Science Laboratory (CSL) I received a Ph.D. in Operations Research under the supervision of Arkadi Nemirovski at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2015 and B.S. in Mathematics at the University of Science and Technology of China in 2010. My research interest lies in the interface of optimization and machine learning, with a primary focus on developing fast algorithms and theoretical analyses for large-scale optimization problems that stem from big data applications in machine learning, signal processing, statistical inference, reinforcement learning, healthcare analytics, financial engineering, and etc. -- The FORML Group Welcome to the F oundations of O perations R esearch & M achine L earning ( FORML ) Group! Follow us by checking out What's New? or visting our FORML Group Page Recent News 2019-06 - Prof. He participated the Uni High Summer Camp and introduced AI research in ISE to middle school students. - Yingxiang started his internship at Ant Financial in Hangzhou! - Prof. He presented the work on target-based TD learning at ICML conference and the work on pseudo mirror descent at ICML Time Series Workshop. - Prof. He co-organized the Midwest Machine Learning Symposium at Madison, WI. Four posters presented at the symposium by Donghwan (spotlight), Yingxiang, Yifan, and Siqi. - Our work (with Harsh Gupta and R. Srikant), titled "Optimization and Learning Algorithms for Stochastic and Adversarial Power Control", was selected as runner-up of Best Paper Award at IEEE WiOpt 2019, Avignon. 2019-04 - Prof. He gave an invited talk at the 69th Midwest Theory Day , Purdue University, IN. - Haoxiang was admitted to the Ph.D. program in ECE at UIUC. Congrats! - Our work on target-based TD learning was accepted to ICML 2019! 2019-01 - Two papers accepted to ACC 2019! 2018-12 - Prof. He gave an invited talk at the NeurIPS workshop on Smooth Games Optimization and Machine Learning at Montreal, Canada. - Yingxiang gave a poster presentation at NeurIPS. 2018-10 - Prof. He organized three sessions (with Ruoyu and Sanmi) at Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing. 2018-09 - Three papers accepted to NeurIPS 2019! 2018-08 - Siqi presented his work on Nonconvex Stochastic Mirror Descent at MOPTA conference in Lehigh University. - Prof. He received NSF CMMI Grant. Thanks NSF! 2018-06 - Dr. Donghwan Lee joined the group as a CSL postdoctoral research associate. 2018-04 - Prof. He was selected as 2018-2019 NCSA Fellow. - The 2017 Senior Design Team (Kyle, Joshua, Alan, Nuttanon) received Bernt O.
